“Looper” starring Bruce Willis is a Sci Fi film set in a dystopic near-future. A killer who works for the mob of the future recognizes one of his targets as his future self. Set photos from New Orleans in March of this year reveal cars of the future that are a blend between advanced technologies and Mad Max, some of them electric cars using solar panels. Several cars were requested for the film shoot including the ALIAS. From the look of the photos, you can tell they liked the ALIAS and we’re looking forward to seeing how they feature it in the film when it debuts in late 2012.
Focusing on New Energy Efficient Vehicles, Gasoline and Full Electric, Utilizing Common Platforms

I do believe that this is the first video of the white ZAP Alias X PRIZE competition vehicle to air on YouTube back in May. The ZAP Alias fan who made this must have seen it driving around Toledo, Ohio immediately before the Shakedown for the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE. Speedway Tire & Auto let us use their racing shop on turn 4 of the Toledo Speedway to do some last minute fine-tuning and this must have been in one of the nearby neighborhoods.
Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine seeing a totally exotic electric car whizzing down a quiet Midwest road at night with its single, bright LED headlight, probably a lot like a UFO sighting. This person must have done what any self-respecting person would have, pulled out their video camera. The next best thing always seems to be, you guessed it, a camera phone.
Well, after months of anticipating the revelation of this car at Michigan International Speedway for Shakedown, to say that we were somewhat disappointed that someone leaked our new car was an understatement. But in retrospect, it’s all good. We have a good idea who made this video, and Sean, all we have to say to you is: nice work! Excellent song selection. Keep on doing those cool card tricks and making creative videos. Bezt!
Samyang Optics has taken delivery of a red Alias that first appeared at National Automobile Dealers Association Expo in New Orleans. The same Alias debuted to the public earlier this year at the Korea EV Challenge, sponsored by Samyang Optics.
Samyang Optics and ZAP Jonway have formed a business venture to introduce electric vehicles (EVs) to Korea. The government’s goal is to commercialize EVs and capture 10 percent of the global market by 2015. Korea wants EVs to comprise 10 percent of domestic small car sales by 2020.
The Alias is a finalist in the Progressive Insurance Automotive XPRIZE, a global competition that will award $10 million in prizes to teams that win a rigorous stage competition for clean, production-capable vehicles and exceed 100 MPG energy equivalent (MPGe). It is among nine vehicles remaining from the original 136 that started the competition. The winners will be announced September 16, 2010 in Washington DC. Further details are available at http://progressiveautoxprize.org.
“Any car that has made it through the XPRIZE finals is a winner in our book,” said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. “Now begins the real work of preparing the Alias for market. It’s the first XPRIZE vehicle in the Kelley Blue Book, so that’s a good start.”

The Zap Alias won the on-line poll for the most attractive car, but this car is far more than just a pretty face. An efficient and quick three-wheeled side-by-side, this electric vehicle carries a 32 kWh advanced lithium-ion phosphate battery made by one of the largest BEV manufacturers in the US, yet it still weighed in at a modest 2733 pounds. This car showed innovation in both its design and execution, yielding excellent performance and efficiency.
Class: Alternative Side by Side
No. of wheels: Three
Drive type: Battery electric, front-wheel-drive

When you have been racing IndyCars your whole career, perhaps you would be ready for a change of scene? So many have been curious about Al Unser Jr.’s attraction to driving the ZAP Alias electric car in the Automotive X PRIZE and we examine some of his recent interviews.
